It has been announced that the Education Institute has completed formation of Social Science standards for the Independent Schools. Provisionally, the standards will be applied in twenty schools from primary to secondary. The new standards include geography, history, and civic education. Education Institute Curriculum Standards Coordinator, Mrs. Afrah Ahmed Al-Rayashi and Dr. Asmaa Mubarak Al-Muhannadi, Senior Curriculum Expert informed that the new standards focuses at enhancing the students' skills of understanding and providing the information, developing the students' skills for critical thinking. The two officials added, the new name of the social studies is Social Science with broader studies of history, geography, and civics. The standards differ from that of the Ministry of education in terms of following the Qatar curriculum standards which stipulate a group of main skills needed by the students. The standards have moved from being solid and included in one book to a wide area of knowledge and understanding including all pillars of education. They confirmed it will include various sources of learning in line with the students' needs and will enhance the role of the libraries, research tools, and educational references.
