National Professional Standards Initial Phase started

A strategic project team from Education Queensland International (EQI) has been appointed to lead this development for the teaching workforce over the next 12 months. This month the team has commenced the initial phase of the project which involves a Needs Analysis and scan of teaching practices. Classroom observation and discussion with school leaders and teachers is an essential part in this process. The team is initially focussed upon building an understanding of the nature of Qatar’s Independent Schools and the extent of our reforms. They fully appreciate the inter-dependent links which must exist between these new National Professional Standards and our existing Curriculum Standards. Upon these dual foundations we will continue to build a strong and vibrant education system.

Matthew Glen is the EQI team leader for the project. He has a strong background in teaching, school leadership and consultancy. Lesley Friend and Tom Hardy are the other two members of the current team. Lesley brings a sound knowledge of curriculum, school reform and effective teaching and learning while Tom is a highly experienced school principal and leader within the profession in Australia. Two more experienced consultants, Grant Webb and Sue Lauer, will join the team in December. At that time, the project will move into a major training and piloting stage, working with school leaders, teachers and selected facilitators in a range of schools.
