A workshop titled: 'Physical Science by Inquiry' will provide an overview of Active, inquiry-based learning whose primary emphasis is on discovering rather than memorizing. The workshop that will be held in Weill Cornell Medical College-Lecture Hall 2, on Sunday, May4 (2:00 to 5:00pm) is open to secondary school physics and chemistry teachers from Independent Schools and MOE. One goal is to help students think of physics or chemistry as an active process of inquiry in which they can participate. Workshop is based on University of Washington Physics Education Group work. There will be activities dealing with matter that illustrate these ideas. These are basic and tied into Qatar curriculum standards, Besides opening this up to chemistry teachers, a few key biology teachers might want to explore this approach to learning in the sciences, to adapt to their own discipline.
