Enhanced Curriculum Standards Training Ends with a Grand Celebration

On Monday, 22 December, the Professional Development Office of the Supreme Education Council (Education Initiative) and Mosaica Education Doha, presented over seventy (70) certificates to the Science Teachers who completed the Enhanced Science Curriculum Standards Training. The event, which also honored the Master Trainers for the Basic Science and Math Curriculum Standards Training and Qatar University for its support of the program, was held at the Qatar University men’s campus.

The Enhanced Science Curriculum Standards Training forms the third tier of the training sequence from Basic to Advanced to Enhanced. The workshops were designed to take participants to an even higher level of teaching excellence. Trainers arranged for participants to engage in a variety of hands on techniques including practical work, interactive demonstrations, use of manipulatives, role play, game strategies and more. Teachers shared their own work and reflections through an interactive web portal called a wikispace (http://enhanced-science.wikispaces.com/), and culminated the workshop series by presenting to their colleagues an activity of their own design.

A major factor in the success of the Enhanced Science Curriculum Standards Training was the partnership with Qatar University. QU generously donated their facilities and resources in support of this program including lecture rooms, lab rooms, equipment, materials, and supporting personnel from the academic staff and lab technicians to security, custodial and medical staff. Therefore, honouring and thanking our partners at Qatar University was an important part of the evening. Dr. Siham Al-Qaradawi, Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences was presented with a plaque in recognition of these outstanding contributions. Department heads Dr. Hamda Al-Naemi, Biological and Environmental Sciences, Dr. El-Metwally Al-Sayed Nour, Chemistry and Earth Sciences and Dr. Mahmoud Boutefnouchet, Mathematics and Physics were honoured. Recognition was also given to the numerous lab assistants and teacher assistants who supported our Enhanced Science Curriculum Standards Training.
